“My love for the Arts’ began early in the third grade when my family moved to California. Every weekend and summer vacation up through high school was spent down the road in the historic Carmel-by-the-Sea artist’s colony. There I would roam from studio to studio watching the artist’s paint, sculpt, carve and spend their days striving to hone their craft. The beauty of this quaint Artist Mecca….the sounds of the sea, the music filtering in and out of the galleries and seeing the artists at work was an amazing spiritual experience. This continuous exposure to the arts became the life force which led me to become an artist. Recreating even a small amount of the beauty I enjoyed while growing up became my inspiration.”
Cathy is a self taught artist and has developed her art while raising two daughters. She has been painting and teaching oil painting classes and workshops to local groups in Texas, Louisiana, Colorado, and Georgia for over 30 years. “As an artist, I find it sometimes difficult to part with my paintings. They are like my children. I have taken a blank canvas, added many brush strokes, paint, years of trial and error to watch the painting grow to maturity. I paint almost any subject but my favorite is a floral.”
Cathy teaches oil painting classes and workshops to adults at Gallery on the Row. “I have a passion for teaching! It is so rewarding to have someone walk in and tell me that they don’t have an artistic bone in their body but they have always wanted to paint. I smile and reassure them that everything’s going to be just fine. Then they go home with an oil painting that they have painted! That make’s me feel special and I am honored that they took the time out of their busy schedule to allow me to be their teacher.”
Cathy’s works are in private and corporate collections throughout the United States. She has won numerous awards in competitions during her career. Her work has been shown at the Columbia County Library, Medical College of Georgia, Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art, and Sacred Heart Cultural Center. She has several pieces hanging at the residence of the President of the Medical College of Georgia. Cathy is co-owner/partner of “Gallery on the Row” at Augusta Georgia’s Artist Row where her paintings are available.
Cathy lives in Martinez, Georgia with her husband Hugh.
